Newcastle fans are showing the love for their Under-23 side after the young Magpies were cruelly knocked out of the Premier League International Cup by Porto B.

Geordies have had to wait quite a while for a European semi-final on Tyneside, and they are showing their pride after the U23s were beaten 1-0 by a last gasp winner.

Spirits are high around St. James’ though, thanks to a truly remarkable stint of form in the senior side.

In the space of a few weeks, the club has gone from battling relegation and fearing the loss of Rafael Benitez, to focusing on a top ten finish and wondering how high the side can soar next season.

The youngsters have been quietly following suit, as they side beat Sunderland in the quarter-final last month, something that will please just about everyone on Tyneside.
